     This series was a culmination of several different things, a continuation of the staining process and its reaction to canvas, the desire to weather a new surface, and my love of line drawings. I was intrigued by Francis Picabia's object portraits - the idea that an inanimate object could stand in for a person and reveal more about them than traditional portraiture. My paternal grandfather was a pilot in World War II, my father had his license, and I have always been fascinated with flying.
